Pneumatic Scale Angelus history
Founded in 1895 in Quincy, MA, Pneumatic Scale Corporation was established when retail merchant William H. Doble realized that a device he had developed for sealing and weighing dried currants could be applied to other products. Originally named the Electric Scale Company, the firm was renamed Pneumatic Scale Corporation upon switching technologies from electricity to compressed air. Initially handling only dry goods, the purchase of the Standard Automatic Company led to patents in bottle filing and capping. By 1922, Pneumatic Scale Corporation had offices in Chicago, New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo (Credit to the Thomas Crane Library for historical references).
Meanwhile, in 1910, the Angelus Sanitary Can Machine Company was founded in Los Angeles, CA by inventor Henry L. Guenther, who designed and patented machinery for producing double seams on cans. His vision was to build a company that would produce the finest machines of its kind, anywhere in the world. His legacy lives on today as the Angelus name is considered the gold standard for seaming.
In 1989, Barry-Wehmiller purchased Pneumatic Scale Corporation, and in 1995, the company's headquarters moved to its current location in Stow, Ohio. By 2007, the company had also acquired the Angelus Sanitary Can Company, bringing together the powerhouse bottling equipment and canning equipment manufacturers to form Pneumatic Scale Angelus.

Synerlink history
Hema was first established in 1936 in Quimper, Brittany, France. The company developed the first rotary piston filler for sauces and jam in 1939 and evolved to produce rotary and linear filers for liquid, viscous, and semi-solid products like oil, dairy, dressings, meat and fish? In 2àà_, Hema developed the first Combi machine for yogurt, showcasing their innovative approach to filling technology.
Arcil was founded in 1978, and was subsequently acquired by Danone, a world-leading food producer, in 1992. In 1994, Arcil introduced a new generation of Thermoform-Fill-Seal (FFS) machines. The company was later renamed Synerlink in 2009, when it began creating complete lines for dairy products. Barry-Wehmiller acquired Synerlink in 2013, further expanding ita capabilities in the packaging industry.
In 2015, Barry-Wehmiller acquired Hema, and in 2016, it acquired Ermi and Sogameca, which became part of Synerlink, while Hema and Synerlink officially joined forces only in 2022, combining their expertise to provide comprehensive solutions for the food and beverage industry. This strategic collaboration has strengthened their position as leaders in packaging technology.

The Creation of BW Filling & Closing
Both companies were operating under the umbrella of Barry-Wehmiller as separate entities, until 2024 when Pneumatic Scale Angelus and Synerlink joined forces to become BW Filling & Closing. Since then, BW Filling & Closing has been working on enhancing customer services globally, and creating innovative, best-of-line equipment for our clients.
