BURT 408 Horizontal Roll-Through Labeler

Burt 408 Horizontal Roll Through labeler

About this machine

About this technology

The Burt 408 is a versatile, consistent and durable labeler, easily handling round containers from 1-3/4” to 4-1/2” in diameter and 1-9/16” to 10” high.  In other words, for everything from pharmaceuticals to hot sauce bottles to canned tuna.  It is a horizontal roll-through labeler, applying paper or paper-backed foil or laminate labels precisely and cleanly, without drips and glue spatter.  The Burt 408 is easy to operate and maintain, with steady production runs at speeds of up to 600 Containers Per Minute (CPM), and perhaps higher once we’ve seen your containers and labels.

The 408 is available in two generations, the 6.0 and 6.2, providing a greater range of options for meeting customer needs. The 6.2 introduces:

  • Industry-leading PLC and HMI controls for realtime feedback and assessment data. Your team has greater capabilities, can now communicate with the entire production line from a single, centrally-located operations point, and the ability to upgrade and grow your operation.

  • Servo motors for greater precision and efficiency in label placement, and also upgrades from a mechanical to electrical VFD, providing greater flexibility, easier maintenance and more precise speed control.

  • Servo-driven line actuators replace the hydraulic units of the 6.0, eliminating the chance of contamination from hydraulic fluid, providing a more hygienic process for the food and pharmaceutical markets.

One of the biggest advantages of Burt labelers is that they are adjustable, precisely labeling containers of different sizes.  A Burt labeler provides flexibility and the opportunity for growth, enabling you to take advantage of opportunities that develop in the marketplace.  With an adjustable labeler you can add a new product, follow market trends to new, popular container sizes, reach new customers, or even fill in open production time with contract packaging.  In other words, an adjustable labeler gives you the freedom to succeed.

Product Details
  • Designed and built in a jig for repeatable precision, providing decades of durability. In fact, labelers we installed 60-70 years ago (before some of our competitors were even in business) are still running smoothly.
  • 3 types of conveying available, for the best choices for controlling containers.  Dual Flat Belt handles cans; Dual V belt controls cans, glass, plastic and cardboard composite containers; Single V-Belt handles aerosols.
  • Positive label pick up system ensures there is no glue slinging, cast off or dripping so labels stay clean, supporting your image as a quality brand
  • Multiple safety features, such as thumb and palm buttons and clear interlocking mesh doors that stop the machine when opened, protect operators and ensure accidents don’t become an unfortunate reason for downtime or interactions with OSHA
  • Temperature controls for hot melt glue avoids serious damage to the equipment by preventing the machine from being run before the glue is liquid enough
  • Belt lap paste is designed as “No container-no paste” feature, so paste can be recycled back into container, reducing waste
  • SIKO counters are standard equipment, providing coordinates enabling operators to restart quickly and in position, even after changing containers
  • Productivity is paramount, so changeovers can be done in 15 – 20 minutes by a single operator with just a wrench
  • New labels can be sized at a glance with the convenient top-rail label gauge
  • To keep your productivity high, the 408 is engineered for easy, minimal maintenance
  • Lubrication points are clustered together for fast, easy application of grease
  • Easily handles challenging labeling projects, such as aerosols, 2 or 3-piece cans, and especially containers with bails.  The Burt’s ability to accurately match up bails and bail ears has made it a favorite choice of the paint industry.

Technical Data
  • Labels containers 1-3/4” – 4-1/2” (44.45 – 114.3 mm) in diameter
  • Labels containers 1-9/16” – 10” ( 39.62 – 254 mm) high
  • Label Length ranges from 4-5/8 – 15” (117.34 – 381 mm)
  • Label Width ranges from 7/8” – 9-1/16” (22.09 – 230.18 mm)
  • 1/2" - 5/8" (12.70 - 15.88 mm) of overlap on labels of all sizes
  • Glue application is Wheel or Quick adjust finger Hot-Melt
  • Drive system is 1.5 HP Totally Enclosed Fan-Cooled (TEFC) motor.  A variable-pitch pulley alters the speed of the machine when the motor is moved in or out.  This pulley is fixed with a Variable-Frequency Drive (VFD) is purchased.
  • Built from 304 stainless steel for durability and ease of cleaning

Options
  • Glue pot timer so glue is warm and ready when production begins
  • Stack lights enable a single operator to run multiple machines by indicating the status of the machine, for example, red when it has stopped, yellow when it needs attention, blue for low labels and green for running
  • An overhead can return can be added, allowing a single operator to both load cans into the machine and remove the labeled containers from the discharge end of the machine
  • A second label feed allows continuous replenishment of the label stack while the machine is running, extending production
  • Left hand operation, for right to left container flow
  • High speed top rail supports
